Profile

My website or blog:
http://www.aspca.org
Proud pet parent of:
Orange sibling kitties Bruce and Maow, who were born April of 2006
How we met:
I adopted them at a tiny, run-down shelter operated by a crazy cat lady.
Pet likes:
Bruce likes watching me cook (and trying to steal food).
Maow likes to sunbathe.
Pet dislikes:
- Being shooed from the table. Again and again and again and again.
- A neat, tidy litter box area. When they see it they must undo it right away.
-My lack of response to their breakfast wakeup calls
Pet’s favorite spot:
Bruce plops himself down on a random spot in the hallway, and Maow favors the top of the couch. Of course, both of them make themselves at home on my dining room table.
Pet’s favorite toy:
Maow loves her 50 cent Spongebob squishies. Bruce steals the caps from my water bottles.
Pet’s silliest habit:
They both dart around the apartment and lightning speed, then stop to lick themselves.
Pet’s sweetest moments:
-My cats have "Elyse is sad" sensors. They come to cuddle with me when I need them the most.
-They greet me at the door when they come home, like doggies. I'd like to think it's not just because they want food.
I crack up when my pet:
Crawls into a suitcase in protest when someone in the house is taking a trip.
My pet is unique because:
Neither can accept that they're merely domestic indoor cats. They're pretty sure they're wildcats and any second now they will finally hunt and kill the pigeons they see out the window.

This is my box

As much as I love talking to ya, I wish I were home squishing up my cuddly orange furry kids!

Bruce and Maow's Roles

Do your animals have roles in their little animal world? My boy cat, Bruce, is in charge of "hunting" for breakfast (AKA waking me up), while my girl cat, Maow, stands on the bookcase meowing at him and supervising. How amusing is that! It's like they're prehistoric cavemen. I should tell my little orange girl that it's 2008 and she's perfectly capable of hunting herself. Bruce usually pokes and prods me at 7AM daily until I stir, but for some reason today he curled up in bed next to me and enj… Continue

Yoga Cat

Last night I was home doing my yoga video (yes, video, I'm old school), which never ceases to amaze my orange girl, Maow. As soon as I get the mat out she comes over to scratch it and sniff it.

At one point I was bent over in downward dog (where your body forms an upside down V) and she actually came under me and started stretching! I kid you not!! I had to stop for a sec and give her furry head a kiss!

Don't You Love it When Cheaper is Better?

I'm very pleased with myself at the moment. In the past I bought beautiful -- and pricier -- Christmas ball ornaments for my tree. And of course, last year many of them shattered at the paws of my kittens.

This year, at the 99 cent store, I bought Christmas balls that are perfectly lovely and they don't shatter! So now when I hear my cats stealing balls from off the tree at 3 A.M., I can smile knowing they're safe (the cats and the balls) and enjoying the holiday season in the…

Kitty Kolor Koordinating

I recently shopped for a new futon, and made sure to pick a color that would complement my 2 cats' lovely orange hues--since they spend so much time lounging there.

Then I realized...oh wait. I'm actually picking out furniture that would look good with my cats.

Are pets just extra cute and cuddly home accessories?

Are you the owner of this site or is this the Aspca? Or are you an employee of the ASPCA that owns this site? Just wondering.

Is there anyway to Start a New Discussion on the Forum here? The many other sites by the same web designer have a button on the top right Start a New Discussion, but its not here or is the site not working?

Maybe you can start a Forum on pet food. I didn't see any discussion on the Forums for that.

Pet owners should know that commercial cheap dog food made with wheat flour or corn causes stinky gas & diahrhea in many pets and pet foods filled with "meat byproducts" which means the free protein is dead dogs & cats. Makes commercial pet food manufacturers rich, with all these free ingredients. We knew someone that picks up killed dogs & killed cats for free from shelters, unsold pet shop puppies, old pets, sick pets & unwanted pets from vets, and delivers the load of dead dogs & cats to premium pet food manufacturers to use for protein in premium pet foods, using the name Meat ByProducts in the ingredients list. Sick huh. Avoid Meat ByProducts because your feeding your pet killed dogs & cats.
We didn't know this all these years. How sick. Others should be aware. I wish someone had told us. For years, our pets ate the unfortunate dead dogs & cats. So many don't know. There are many great pet foods that don't use meat byproducts that you can feed your pet.

Maybe the shelters have to use the cheap pet foods to keep the animals at the shelter alive, but once adopted, they should be fed a better food.

Helpful info for members.

Can you please help me? My local paper, The Kansas City Star, had an article suggesting we recycle cats by putting them in the washing machine on the spin cycle. The comment was made in a regual column called The Watchdog in the Sunday, July 20th paper. I've called the paper, written several emails and a letter to the editor expressing my shock and disgust at the comment. I'm doing everything I can to get the paper to print a retraction of the comment but feel I need additional help from anyone willing to take the time and you seem to be the type of person willing to step up and help defent animals from cruelty.

Thanks,

David Young
