Profile

Proud pet parent of:
Gunnar Lee, my 114.90 lb. sweet boy, who is a rotty/mix, and Bear Walker, my little one, a 101.7 lb. my other sweet boy, who is a GSD.
Both are very handsome, loving and devoted family members.
Coming soon is Peaches, a year and a half old female Am Staff Terrier!
How we met:
I brought Gunnar home when he was 6 weeks old. I met his owner at his place of business. He told me his female Rottweiler had a litter and the pups were ready to go. I went, I saw, I had to have one!
Bear is my rescue baby. He lived in an abusive situation next door. He pretty much picked me. LOL! We were having our home built and Bear was always there. We hadn't moved in yet, and there is Bear inside the fence in our backyard! I don't know what his owner was doing, but she obviously wasn't worried about her dog. He came to live with us permanately when she abandonded him.
Then there's Peaches!!
Peaches is another rescue baby from Conneticut. Susan found her and sent me information about her. She was pulled from the shelter 1 day before she was to be euthanized. Peachy is a 1 1/2 year-old Am Staff Terrier. aka. pit bull. Such a beautiful and very happy little girl, too!!
Pet likes:
Food!! Specifically, "California Naturals" kibble, and Evo canned duck, rabbit, and turkey, organic dog cookies, (made with peanut butter, oats, flax, honey and blueberries) Kong toys, ice cubes, and lot's of scratches and doggy massages!!.
Gunnar loves going for rides. He loves laying on the deck and surveying his world and napping. He loves to play fetch and he really loves to play Mommy go fetch!! He will play for hours if one has the stamina for it.
Bear loves cold weather, laying on the deck, and naps! He especially likes his chest scratched and isn't shy about directing you where to scratch.
And Bear loves to sneak on the couch to sleep after we're in bed.
Both just love getting the doggy massages and all the kisses we can give them.
Bear likes to be my 'little helper' when I'm on the computer. I can honestly blame a lot of my typo's on him. LOL!! He comes up and bumps my right arm and insists on getting his love. He is a great helper in the kitchen, too!! He loves cleaning up the floor and making sure he is everywhere I want to step next!! Good 'thang' I have a big kitchen. LOL!!
Pet dislikes:
Both boys hate being scolded, and having to go out in the rain for their morning whiz. Actually they hate going out PERIOD when it's raining!! Thunder storms strike terror in the hearts of my boys. The big one, Gunnar, is really terrified of thunder. Just hearing the rain start falling gets him panting and revved up.(it's about the ONLY time I allow Gunnar or Bear on the bed) I think Bear picks up on Gunnars fear and reacts to it. He doesn't like thunder, but he doesn't totally flip out like Gunny does.
Neither one cares for baths. Gunnar is more tolerant of baths because he was brought up having them. Bear acts like he's being killed. He fights me all the way. What a fuss!! Both of them get the 'zoomies' after the ordeal is over. They will race all over the yard and act like puppies. It's so funny.
Pet’s favorite spot:
Gunnar's is in front of the fireplace on his bed, or on his tempurpedic mattress in the bedroom. Bear likes the cold wood floor in the kitchen, on Jeff's feet, on my feet, halfway up in our lap, on the bare floor in one of the bathrooms in front of the a/c duct. He does sleep in his bed when it's time for lights out. Bear also has a spot by the back door on the deck. That way he can hear what's going on in the house and keep an eye on his territory.
Bears ultimate favorite spot is the kitchen, but both boys like to be where we are.
We don't get away with anything!!
Pet’s favorite toy:
Gunnar has nyla bones and big rubber toys he loves to race around with. (not great inside the house when you're 114.90 lbs)
Bear loves ice cubes. He also likes to chase the ball when we play out in the back yard.
Pet’s silliest habit:
Their power plays at the food dishes. Gunnar snitches on Bear by barking and running to us if Bear is stealing HIS food. (which is ALL of the time)
Bear does what I call, "The Toilet Trap". Lord help you if you leave the door open when you go in to sit down!! Bear will come in and determine if you are going to be there for a while, or not. IF you are, he settles in for all the chest scratches he can get. He will sit up on his haunches to give you better access. And if you quit, he will get quite insistant that you continue offering him his due!! NO PEACE whatsoever in one the most sacred of private situations!!
Pet’s sweetest moments:
When Gunnar and Bear kiss each other/when they let us know they love us.
When they are so overjoyed to see us when we come home.
When they watch every move we make. They are always spying on us. They are just so loving and sweet and trusting.
I crack up when my pet:
When my boys are in full play mode in the back yard. The funniest time was when Gunnar was watching Bear search for the right location to 'plant his loaf'. Gunnar got a big grin on his face just as Bear was preparing for the 'big pinch'. Gunnar launched off the deck and buzzed Bear. This scene repeated itself several times. Finally Bear got a silly grin on his face and gave it up to play.

And Bear is sooo funny when one of us comes out of the bedroom and he's on the couch. All you can see are his ears peeking up above the arms, and then he slithers off so he won't get busted. Of course he doesn't realize the bushels of hair he leaves behind is a BIG give away. I have started putting a blanket over the couch for him at night so he can have his spot.
One morning, Bear was so comical when he went running out of the door on a frozen winter morning and tried putting the brakes on as he hit the deck. He went right over the edge. (before we got the railing up) Fortunately he wasn't hurt, but I think his pride was a little injured when we couldn't help but laugh.
My pet is unique because:
Because they are just so good and so sweet. They rarely do anything to get scolded for, even though Gunnar can be a freight train in the house when he gets riled up over something.
And for some reason they love us sooo much and only the Good Lord knows how they put up with me!! I'm thankful they do!! My life is so much richer and blessed for having my animals in it.

-For All the One's I have Loved and Lost

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on the snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.

I am the song that will never end.
I am the love of family and friend.
I am the child who has come to rest,
In the arms of the Father who knows him best.

When you see the sunset fair,
I am the scented evening air.
I am the joy of a task well done.
I am the glow of the setting sun.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.

Two Wolves~

One evening an elder Indian Chief told his grandson about
a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, "My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all'.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance,
self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride,
superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility,
kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather,
'Which wolf wins?'

The elder chief simply replied, 'The one you feed.'

"Love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation." - Kabil Gibran

I just wanted to let you know that I made it home. The journey wasn't an easy one, but it didn't take long. Everything is pretty here, so white, so fresh and new. I wish that you could close your eyes and that you could see it too. Please try not to be sad for me. Try to understand. God is taking care of me... I'm in the shelter of His hands. Here there is no sadness, no sorrow, and no pain. Here there is no crying and I'll never hurt again. I really have to go for now... I've just got to try my wings.
_________________________________________________________________
I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal. And I was angry. "God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?" God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly. "I have done something," He replied, "I created you."

Animals Matter to Me
http://www.hsus.org/legislation_laws/citizen_lobbyist_center/help_end_horse_slaughter.html

Get the Facts about Horse Slaughter
How many horses are slaughtered each year?
Prior to the closure of all three foreign-owned plants in the U.S., over 100,000 horses were being slaughtered in the United States and processed for human consumption. Now, tens of thousands of live horses are transported across the border to Mexico and Canada for slaughter. After these horses are killed, their flesh is shipped to Europe and Asia for human consumption. Their owners are often unaware of the pain, fear, and suffering their horses endure before being slaughtered

God Bless you all.

The BABY SEAL SLAUGHTER started on March 28, 2008. There is a link in my blog on the seals to read the latest update on the seal's fate. From there you may view the awful truth in a video.
This years seal season was one of the worst for clubbers!! There may not even be a season next year. But our work isn't over!! An update from Defender's of Wildlife states 56 wolves have already been slaughtered!! gt;

I'm so in love with the wolves I HAD to give. Please, I know times are hard, but any amount will help save these beautiful creatures.

Wolves

We see mountains grow from hills,
and trees grow tall.
We feel years go on,
only to grow old and fall.
Our howls echo,
through the tall trees.
They bounce off the mountains,
and are carried on the breeze.
The Native Americans respect us,
regard us as sacred and wise.
They see a piece of themselves,
when they gaze into our eyes.
This all may no longer be,
for our fight has begun.
We wish not to live,
in fear of hunters guns.

The Florida Panther is still losing much needed habitat. It is estimated that only 80 panthers still exist in the Florida Everglades. Steps are being taken to preserve and protect this wonderful creature whose home range was once as far north as Tennessee and as far west as Texas. That is a dramatic loss of habitat. To learn more, or to join in the effort to save the panther please visit www.floridapanther.org

Proverbs 12:10 states that: "A righteous man has regard for the life of his beast," and Psalm 145:9 teaches that "The Lord is good to all, and his compassion rests upon all his creatures." The bible forbids cruelty to animals in Deuteronomy (22:10, 25:4) and says they are to share in the Sabbath rest (Exodus 20:10, Deut 5:14). The Psalms even have the animals praising God -148:7-10: 150:6.

It's All in the Genes
Did you adopt a dog from the shelter or humane society? Ever wonder what breeds came together to make up your mutt? Well, now you can find out. A new genetics test can be run on a cheek swab from your pooch and let you know with some degree of certainty who your dog's ancestors are. Why would you be interested? Well, some people might be just interested for curiosity's sake. Still others may want to know why their mutt keeps trying to herd the kids together in the backyard and on a more scientific note, pet owners and veterinarians may want to know what breeds are involved to help identify possible health problems and intervene before they become untreatable. Certain breeds are prone to certain types of cancer, and this might be one area where this information might be most useful. Targeted care by your veterinarian could help identify these most likely types of health problems and intervene early on in the course of the disease. As science advances in the arena of genetics for all species, we will likely be hearing about more and more available tests and even treatments.

Your aging dog
There are few bonds of love and devotion quite as absolute as those between a dog and his family. Ten or thirteen years seem to pass so quickly, and it’s hard to believe that your walking companion is now considered a canine senior citizen. Just as people age differently, so do dogs. A lot depends on breed and genetics as well as the dog’s lifestyle and diet over the years. Just because your dog is now up in years doesn’t mean he is ready to retire as your best buddy. In fact, if you’re thinking of adopting an animal, an older dog should not be overlooked. Sure, puppies are cute, but a mature dog has learned so much more. Typically, they are housebroken, don’t chew everything in sight, they know what “no” means and have grown accustomed to living in a “pack” with human beings. Adopting an older animal from a shelter also shows that you don’t believe a dog is expendable just because of his age. At this time in a dog’s life, it’s extremely important to schedule a yearly wellness exam (or more frequently, if your vet suggests it). That’s likely to include a senior blood panel, which can tell you a lot about how your best friend is aging. It’s possible that behavior simply attributed to “old age”, such as ‘slowing down’ or stiffness, can be the result of a treatable medical condition -- a thyroid issue, for example. Just like a person, as a dog ages, he may be subject to certain diseases not as common in a younger animal, such a diabetes, arthritis, liver and kidney disease. And as we all know, an obese animal is not going to be as healthy, or age as well, as one in a normal weight range. Certain changes in a dog’s personality can also occur as a result of aging, such as not responding to verbal commands due to a hearing loss, or a newly developed separation anxiety. Many of these problems can be dealt with by simply being attuned to your dog’s changing needs. Diet is an especially important consideration at this stage. A pet food with high quality protein and ingredients is vital to maintaining an older dog’s quality of life. Aging is not a disease. If your best friend is now an old friend, you’ve taken good care of him or he wouldn’t have made it this far. With some luck, good food, and proper veterinary care, you can keep him by your side for yet more years to come.

This Old Dog
I'm getting on in years,
My coat is turning gray.
My eyes have lost their luster,
My hearing's just okay.
I spend my days dreaming
Of earlier times with you
When I could run and jump and play
And fetch the ball you threw.
I remember our first visit,
I was coming to you free
Hoping you would take me in
And keep me company.
I wasn't young or handsome,
Two years I'd roamed the street.
There were scars upon my face,
I hobbled on my feet.
I could sense your disappointment
As I left my prison cage.
Oh, I hoped you would accept me
And look beyond my age.
You took me out of pity,
I accepted without shame.
Then you grew to love me,
And I admit the same.
I have shared with you your laughter,
You have wet my fur with tears.
We've come to know each other
Throughout these many years.
Just one more hug this morning
And as you drive away
Know I will think about you
Throughout your busy day.
I'll faithfully wait here for you
And though my head's a fog
My heart is yours forever.
I promise-

This old dog.

Hi Renee, thanks for stopping by and reading the News announcement..I'm trying to get all my information on my page but it's a slow going progress..HSUS was one of my first of the many phone calls that I made when Gage was shot...Trying to get the news out and Pepper with the HSUS was great...She said she was MORE than happy to publish and a representative from HSUS will be at Gage's Trial on August 26th as well as they are monitoring the case closely (hopefully that means something good) ...Fingers cross for this family to finally get some closure!!!
Thanks again, Sherry

Hi Renee. Yes, I'm into photography as a hobby. I've got a decent camera and a lot of software to handle them here at home. I have close to a thousand photos here on an external hard drive that I've taken with my current camera, and hundreds more taken with others. My mother got me started when I was about 10 and have enjoyed is since. I really, really appreciate you taking the time to look at them. Bye.
